Ishq O Takht (released in Turkish as Aşk ve Taht) is a historical drama series centering on the rise of Sultan Alaeddin Keykubat of the Seljuk Empire.

1. Eight Years in Darkness

The series opens with Alaeddin trapped in a dungeon, having spent eight years imprisoned following a severe betrayal orchestrated by his own mother, Ümmühan Hatun, and the Atabey he once trusted like a father.

During his dark years in captivity, two things keep him alive:

The Throne: A vow to claim his rightful inheritance as the ruler of the Seljuk State.
A Green-Eyed Stranger: The memory of a fair-haired, green-eyed woman who reached out to him years ago when he was near death.

2. From Captive to Sultan

Expecting an executioner when his cell doors open, Alaeddin is instead confronted by Ayaba, a key figure from his past. Ayaba delivers life-altering news: Alaeddin is chosen to ascend as the new Sultan of the Seljuk Empire. Released from his dungeon, Alaeddin heads toward Konya to assume power, determined to seek vengeance against those who betrayed him.

3. The Princess in Disguise

News of Alaeddin’s ascension reaches Kalonoros (modern-day Alanya). Princess Destina, who had saved a mysterious young man years prior without knowing his royal identity, sets off in disguise to Konya to see the new ruler with her own eyes.

When Sultan Alaeddin enters Konya in grand procession, Destina watches from the crowd and is shocked to realize that her long-lost love is the very leader taught to be her enemy—Sultan Alaeddin Keykubat. At the same time, Alaeddin remains unaware that the green-eyed woman he has been longing for is standing right in front of him in the crowd.

4. Palace Intrigue and Political Sacrifices

Taking the throne immediately embroils Alaeddin in royal conflict:

Rivalry: His half-brother, Melik Celaleddin, plots against him to secure the throne for himself.
Maternal Tension: A tense reckoning begins between Alaeddin and his mother, Ümmühan Hatun.
Dynastic Marriage Condition: To consolidate his power and hold the throne securely, Alaeddin is faced with a political condition—he must marry his cousin, Melike Hüma Hatun, who holds strong feelings for him.
