Newborn jaundice causes the eyes and skin of the baby to yellow. Jaundice in newborns occurs when babies have high levels of bilirubin, a yellow pigment produced when red blood cells break down. In most cases, jaundice will disappear within 2 to 3 weeks. Jaundice that persists longer than 3 weeks may be a symptom of an underlying condition. In this video, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Hassan Suleman Malik has discussed the causes and treatment for jaundice in detail.
